As mentioned, I'm doing a re-watch of Quantum Leap (1989) now that I've fallen back into writing slash for it. And as I watched, decided to write up my off-the-cuff thoughts as I watch and post them. (I'm also doing this on my Tumblr.)

Season 1, episode 4: "The Right Hand of God"
Date of Leap: October 24, 1974
Writer: October 24, 1974

To quote JD Rush, I committed fanfic again. This time Sherlock!

If you're interested, here's the
AO3 version, and here's where you can reblog it on Tumblr!

Title: A Rose By Any Other Name
Author: Kylara Ingress
Fandom: Sherlock
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Rating: Teen and Up
Summary: Sherlock discovers pet names. Of course, he thinks he needs one for John.
tags: fluff, established relationship, humor, pet names, so many pet names,
characters: Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, Greg Lestrade, Mrs. Hudson, Anderson, Donovan
Notes: Blame my wife, who came up with 'snugglebunny snuffleblossom honey bunny boo' years ago as a joke, and we still use it for each other. She used it the other day, and ... well ... this happened.

Yes, you read that right. Here we are, in the year of our Lord 2024, and I've written a Quantum Leap (1989) slashfic.

If you're interested, here's the AO3 version, and here's where you can reblog it on Tumblr

Title: Leap of Love

Author: Kylara Ingress

Fandom: Quantum Leap (1989)

Pairing: Sam/Al

Rating: Explicit

Summary: Sam deals with the traditions of Valentine's Day.

tags: POV First Person, leap home AU, holidays, Valentine's Day, rimming, penetration, established relationship,

Notes: You don't have to have read the others in my Traditions universe, although of course I'd love it if you did. Sam's been home since about September, and has shacked up with Al – at first to get his memories in tow, but as they shared their mutual attraction for each other, it became more permanent.

I started this series in 2001, and I had this story as a WIP (up until Ziggy's comment about the security cameras) and had stopped it, not knowing where I was going with it. It was a combination of Jen Rossman doing a live tweet rewatch of the original series on Twitter and J.D. Rush posting her latest Harmony stories that caused Sam to start talking to me again. But since the Traditions series was originally written in 2001, I have these set in the early 2000s.

Thanks to JD Rush and AngelWithInk for the beta and help with writing.

Gift for mgraylorn, since their latest QL story is also partially responsible for this getting finished.

And yes: Angelo's is blatantly stolen from BBC Sherlock. If it bothers you that badly, assume that BBC Sherlock's Angelo has a younger lookalike twin cousin who moved to New Mexico and started up his own restaurant there. ;-)

Al's outfit for Valentine's Day can be seen here.

Al's car (Headcanon that we all give Al our dream car at least once. This is my turn.) can be seen here

Sam's gift to Al: can be seen here

Forgot to post it here as well.

Title: 20 Questions: The Case of the Dirty Phone Call
Author: Kylara Ingress
Fandom: Sherlock
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Rating: Mature
Summary: John tries phone sex with Sherlock. It goes about as well as he expects.

Note: as always, dedicated to JD Rush, as her "20 Questions" style is all over this. While not necessarily in the same world as my other 20 Questions, it's not NOT in the same world either. While I started this wanting to do legitimate smut, Sherlock apparently decided it was going to be a comedy instead. Sherlock's definition of 'metaphor' comes from the Merriam Webster website.

March was a long and roller coaster of a month. I'm debating whether to keep doing these, so would love to hear some feedback as to whether you like reading these. More under the cut....

The time got away from me, as you'll read about in November's update. Part if it was the last week of October was wrapped up with a work conference and my first press red carpet in over two years, so.... More under the cut.

The heat was overwhelming during August. Add in the California fires (nowhere near us, thankfully) and the hurricanes (there's a hurricane Kate apparently?) and it's been not-so-fun weather time. And of course the earthquake on August 7. It's weird that I'm now used to them. More under the cut.

The end of June had some minor issues (more below), so this is a few days late. I know I owe a response or two to my last one, but it's been difficult to do much beyond work and the minimum upkeep on everything else.

June overall was pretty much same old, same old. Yes, I'm fully vaccinated (and so is my wife), but I don't trust people, and news of the Delta variant making its presence known in Los Angeles has me still masking up when I go out.

More under the cut....

It’s a stressful time for anyone, regardless of how healthy you are. Thankfully, I am still working during this pandemic — albeit remotely. But that means I’m missing out on a lot of the great stuff that is being offered to keep people entertained and enlightened.

It makes sense, however, that when I do engage, I’ve been resorting to something familiar for the sense of comfort it gives me. But I also still want something ‘new’. So, I’ve compromised — and am looking at new things from creators I’m familiar with. Here are five things I’ve been doing to stay culturally engaged.

There are parts of fandom that have problems -- because, surprise, fandom is made up of people. My first roundtable, episode 35, dealt with the toxicity in the Star Wars fandom. A side conversation in that podcast led to this episode, wherein we (very broadly) talk about some of the more taboo aspects of shipping.

So, thanks to Tumblr being a bag of dicks, I've gotten a few more followers here. Hello!

Doctor Who

So, I'm not very active on this. I was treating it as LiveJournal 2.0, and geared toward my fandom persona - even so far as choosing to use my pseudonym that I created back in the early 2000s when I first was introduced to slash fiction. It was originally intended as a place to post fan fic, and maybe the occasional piece I didn't want on my 'public' website.

I've written a few new fanfics here, but the muse - alas - has not been very kind to me the past couple of years. Especially in fiction.

So, I've been linking teasers to items that I post on my website Contents May Vary. I've got a master's in specialized journalism: the arts, and have been trying to do freelancing in the geek culture / media world (and occasionally theatre world) with not the most success. Partly due to me also working a 40-hour job to pay bills, partly due to depression that the past couple of years has (unsurprisingly) exacerbated.

As a result, lately I've really been focusing on my podcast, G33K Out, which began as a spin off of my master's thesis. I interview geeky people about geeky things. Would love to have you subscribe to it. I'm still getting my feet under me for it.

You can also find me on Twitter, and (once it's back up) Pillowfort (username angiefsutton). (I'm also on Facebook, but I try to limit that to people I actually KNOW know, if that makes sense?)

I may try and post more here now that the Tumblr-apocalyse is nigh, but won't guarantee anything.

Feel free to tell me all about you in my comments.

So, the LiveJournal TOS kerfuffle has made me come on over to DreamWidth, but since I have a 'regular' website with my journalistic writing, I figured I'd use this to do what I was going to eventually do on my LiveJournal side and make this more for my fannish side, and name it after my fan fiction alter ego Kylara Ingress.

I don't know how often I will post over here, and you can find me over on Tumblr (both my
regular side and as Kylara) as well, but we'll see how it goes.

I wrote this piece back in 2002-ish for the Zendom mailing list website. It's no longer on their page, but I think this is still relevant - and especially relevant considering what's been going on in the Sherlock fandom.

Yin and yang, love and hate, peace and war, life and death, light and dark. Some believe (including myself) you can't have one without the other – in order to define light, you must have knowledge of the dark. And while fluffy / comedic stories have their place, they are also almost a requirement as an opposition to dark fic.

So, I learned the other day that one of my favorite slash writers when I first found this weird and wonderful aspect of fandom back in the early 2000s. She really had a knack for humor.

As I wrote in the comment on the blog where I found out, she and I had corresponded a few times as I wrote her the occasional positive feedback on her stories she posted to the Slash Writers YahooGroup. Her writing was epically hilarious, except when it wasn’t, if that makes sense? When she went silly, she wrote with an abandon that really said ‘Fuck it’. (I mean, who else out there would write a story that had all the characters Seth Green played have an orgy with each other? And she was the only one I ever read Winnie the Pooh slash and didn’t squick at it.)

It was through an exchange between us where I joked about the ‘Can you hear me now?’ guy from Verizon and the Fox Mulder/FBI knockoff guy from Sprint being in a Romeo & Juliet type relationship that caused her “Commercial Slash” series, which then caused what I still use today as THE definition of a crack pairing: the Hamburger Helper glove and the Arby mitt. (Yes, it ends on the requisite ‘fisting’ joke.)

RIP, Scribe. May you have been greeted by the wild orgy you so epically deserve.

Just a little bit of fluff to make up for the angsty piece I am finishing up on right now. See? I can write funny stuff sometimes.

Do NOT ask me how I came up with this. I'm not quite sure myself. Read it on AO3 as well

Title: 20 Questions: The Case of the Embarrassing Evidence
Author: Kylara Ingress
Fandom: Sherlock
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Rating: ooh, PG, leaning on PG-13
Summary: John asks about a certain piece of evidence that Sherlock has.
Spoilers: none
Note: Dedicated to JD Rush, as her 20 Questions style is all over this sucker. Also, there's some issue with the legitimacy of the Oscar Wilde quote. Consider it legit for this little piece of fluff, as it's not vital to what little story there is here. Not Brit-picked, unless you count the countless hours I spend watching British media from Downton Abbey to The IT Crowd to Death at a Funeral.

Holy crap.

It's been over ten years since I last wrote fiction of any kind, let alone fanfic. A bunch of various things conspired for this to happen that I won't go into, and I was at least satisfied with my various non-fiction writing (some posted here, but most posted on my theatre blog) even though I missed the feel of having a character take over a story, and I worried I'd never get back to that place where I hear the character's voice in my head.

I had watched the first series of Sherlock because I'm a Moffat fan (even though I can never remember if it's two f's and one t, or two t's and one f), LOVED how he 'modernized' Jeckyll, and have enjoyed other versions of the good detective: so I knew it was going to be good. Having them acknowledge the very long history of people already slashing the two main characters just added to my enjoyment of the first series, but I never did much more than that. The second series gobsmacked me (I love that word - gobsmack), and - well, as my note below states, could easily see a scene or two in my head. Meanwhile, I was enjoying JD's Sherlock stories, and figured that would be that ... and then John started 'talking'. In present tense (I normally HATE present tense) - and in 50+ sentences that would put Faulkner to shame. I was both excited and scared, and ... well, the results are below. You can also read it on AO3

Totally not betad, so please read with the proverbial grain of salt. So, without further ado....
