Sorry for the radio silence on the podcast. I’ve been going through some stuff that I go into a bit more in the audio, but the important part is that I’m back — albeit back to a monthly schedule.

Back in February, I attended my second Gallifrey One convention here in Los Angeles. While there, I managed to snag 30 minutes of time with animator and artist Alisa Stern, the woman behind the YouTube web series Doctor Puppet. We talk about what got her into animation, why she chose to do a Doctor Who-based series, and what’s next on her plate now that she’s decided to wrap it all up.

Head’s up that I interviewed her in the lobby early Sunday morning, so the background noise is a bit crowded — and it only gets worse as the interview progresses.

I've written before about the term 'fangirl' and its current place in fandom. Of course, I'm not the only fan who's taken to reclaiming the word and redefining myself as a fangirl. Hansi Oppenheimer is a filmmaker who has considered herself a fangrrl since at least the age of 6, but wanted to explore what it meant to be a woman in fandom. What was originally going to be a feature film turned into the ongoing YouTube documentary project, Squee! The Fangrrl Project. A couple of months ago, she announced that she was going to do a mini-convention, SqueeCon, in December.

I sat down with Hansi and talked about what it means to be a fangirl, her approach to creating the documentary, and where she wants to go from here.

It’s that time of the year again, where every store you go into has Christmas music playing. And while there does tend to be a good batch to listen to, there’s one song that can divide a caroling party into a fight worthy of West Side Story.

“The Twelve Days of Christmas” is a carol from 1780 and thought to be French in origin. (Thanks, Wikipedia!) It, of course, covers the eponymous days, which start Christmas day and are said to be the days it took the Wise Men to get to Jesus with their unusual baby shower gifts. And while the cumulative nature of the song was probably some 1700 way of keeping a song going, in 2017 it just means the song tends to get old, fast.

On Saturday, August 1, I had the privilege of attending the red carpet premiere of Star Trek: Renegades. I managed to catch Adrienne Wilkinson, Robert Picardo, Vic Mignogna, Kevin Fry, Larissa Gomes, Tim Russ, Eugene Byrd, Cela Scott, Jason Matthew Smith, and Rico Anderson.

While I had Miracle Laurie on hand for an interview for her work in the new web series Nobility during 2014 Comikze, we talked a bit further about her process as an actress and about female representation in science fiction, which naturally led to her work on Dollhouse.

During the 2014 Comikaze Expo, I got a chance to talk to Dan O'Brien, the head writer and creative director of video at Cracked, about their latest venture: web sitcoms.

So, with Tumblr being ... Tumblr, I've decided to start posting links to my podcast episodes here as well. So....

Web series are becoming more popular as an option for entertainment, with such productions as The Guild, Husbands, and Awkward Black Girl. The second season of “Untitled Web Series About a Space Traveler Who Can Also Travel In Time” premieres September 24, 2013. Producer, co-writer, and star of the series Travis Richey talks about the origin of the show, what’s different about season two, and his reasons for putting it on the Internet.

I am proud to consider myself a geek. While my junior high and high school years were the character-building years wherein I determined I'd rather be weird than normal (much to my mother's chagrin), it wasn't really until college and beyond that I finally got to the point where I could say 'fuck it' as to whether people liked me or not, and just be myself regardless - which included re-claiming the nerd, geek, and dork names I had been called growing up.

I share this reclaiming with a number of people, from Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day to Joss Whedon and Steven Moffat: people who are not ashamed to proudly proclaim that they are indeed geeks. In fact, I had heard about Speak Out With Your Geek Out via the online comic Dork Tower which I read because it's "funny because it's true" humor about geeks and geek life.

So, per the blog, I am writing to share my enthusiasm and love of some my various things I feel I am a geek about. I am not detailing everything - otherwise, this blog entry would be a novel (and Wheaton's already done that), but these are the ones that come to mind.
